THE SERIES
After leaving the documentation of my performance history to chance, I’ve not only began recording all my sets I’m recording them as six discrete parallel stereo stems, with the original intention to mix and master them later. However, due to an impatient nature and inability to concentrate for long periods of time, coupled with a severe distrust of my own judgement, I’ve decided instead to upload them to Bandcamp and humbly ask you, my audience, to mix them down for release as a series of limited-edition audience-curated live 7” singles.
Now when I say mix, I’m not necessarily after an authentic reproduction of a live show, I mean in some of the stems were recorded pre-fader and a lot of it wasn’t even part of the original show. I’ve including the live MIX for reference but want you to subvert the idea of a live recording, as I’m more interested in hearing your perspective, what do you find interesting in the recordings?
Essentially, distil a full set down to its 4 to 4 and half minute essence. Feel free to mix in any way you see fit: only use the stems you like, move audio around in the timeline and dissect the material in any way you wish. My only rules are that every sound is sourced from a single performance: no looping or repeating material and most importantly don’t add additional material and avoid overt processing that colours my sound. By that I mean EQ and mastering compression are fine, but added reverb or delay—no thank you.
You can get involved in two ways: either as a contributor who mixes the material, or as a label that selects two mixes for release. You can also do both by having an artist on your roster produce the mixes. Each single will be released as a limited edition of 200 copies, as a split release with my label dualpLOVER. They will only be available at my shows or online through the partner label and will not be released digitally or made available through streaming.
I’m also interested in photographs or video taken at my sets for possible use as cover art. Please send your mastered mixes, photographs or video to justiceyeldham_at_gmail_dot_com. Name each file after the performance city and date in day/month/year order, followed by your name—for example: city241226_your_name.wav.
