Granpa Abela – Audience Curated – 7” series

A year and a half ago I brought a eurorack module that can discreetly record all six stereo chains of my live sets so I could mix and master them into a live album. Due to my impatient nature and inability to concentrate, coupled with a severe distrust in my own judgement, I instead uploaded the first batch of recordings; the entire July 2024 tour of North America to bandcamp and asked you my audience to reinterpret them in an attempt to subvert the idea of what exactly is a live record is anyway. The results were amazing and are now compiled into the album; i heart granpa . My original intention was to release this as an LP, as the second posthumous release on my reanimated dualpLOVER label following the release of the Never single (a collaboration with Zach Hill). I ended up chickening out after realising the majority of my physical sales are sold person to person at shows and I simply don’t wanna lug boxes of LP’s around. The Never 7” on the other hand has been easy to travel with and has been an invaluable income source on the road. So now that I’m now down to my last copies, I’ve decided to revisit the experiment of collating randomly audience sourced material with the idea of compiling them as a continuing series of 7” singles available exclusively at shows. With that in mind I humbly ask if you could please find your favourite bits from my live recordings spanning 2025 (and ongoing I will publish new stems here after each performance), download the stems [available on bandcamp for free and embeded below] and mix and master them into tracks that that clock in somewhere between 3 and a half to 4 and a half minutes (max, ideally aim for somewhere around the 4 min mark) for vinyl release. I’m happy with any reinterpretation of the live material as long as the track is completely made from my sounds from a particular show (these aren’t remixes please don’t add any new sounds to the mix) besides that you can experiment with the stems however you choose; use some / omit some, even re arranged them to explore time as long as it’s all from the same performance. The best mixes will be pressed as a series 7” singles, each limited to 200 copies, that will be exclusively sold at shows. These mixes will not be made available in any other format; no digital or streaming version will be made available (and once a piece of a show is chosen the source material will also be removed from bandcamp). I am also interested in any photographs taken during this period as I want to use images from the shows as cover art.
